When TSHTF is bartering really wise?

Would not someone kill you if you were known to have in demand goods?

i hear of alot of folks on this forum having 90% coins instead of silver bars and copper pennies. i plan on being well hidden with everything i need when things get bad. i just hope silver peaks before it gets too bad.
